Almost everyone has been impacted by suicide, none more than those within the military, or their families.
Here are some facts, and ways you can help.

Rates of suicide

More than 30,000 people commit suicide each year. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death within the military. Approximately 13% of all suicides are by those who have served.

What are the signs?

  • Talking about wanting to die or to kill themselves

  • Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live

  • Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs

  • Withdrawing or isolating themselves

  • Acting anxious or agitated; behaving recklessly

How you can help

  • Encourage them to seek help

  • Practice active listening

  • Show interest and support

  • Offer hope
